IUE® Demand Response (DR)
Solution: Automated Curtailment via Intelligent Agents
In order to address both comfort and reliable execution in acting on a demand response signal, WebGen has extended its concept of Intelligent Control. The IUE, Demand Response module leverages the intelligence and forecasting capabilities of IUE, Agent Control (another module in the IUE Suite) to:
- Identify where demand can be temporarily shifted without causing loss
of comfort, and
- Implementing the necessary actions automatically, thus eliminating
error-prone and cumbersome manual emergency curtailment procedures.
Upon receiving the call for curtailment, energy operators "dial" the desired the demand into the IUE system. They then run a simulation of how the curtailment will be achieved by the agents, and then issue the order to curtail to the intelligent agents. Human operators do not have to have a pre-established curtailment plan, neither do they need to change setpoints on individual pieces of equipment.
IUE's agents determine where the energy curtailment can be found in the portfolio at the least cost to comfort. By applying strategies such as load rotation, supply air reset, fan speed reset, precooling, etc. our agents craft a curtailment plan that is optimal for this moment in time. The agent take all available parameters, such as outside air temperature, weather forecast, current setpoints, forecasted occupation, etc. into consideration.
