University of Miami Medical Campus To Implement Enterprise Energy Management System

WebGen’s IUE Chosen to Control Energy in 15 Buildings

Cambridge, Mass. (June 21, 2004) – WebGen Systems, Inc., provider of advanced software for energy conservation and control in commercial buildings, announced today that the University of Miami will expand its use of WebGen’s Intelligent Use of Energy (IUE®) by installing it in 15 of the University’s Medical Campus buildings. The system will allow the Medical Campus to monitor, forecast and optimize its energy consumption.

IUE was first installed at the University of Miami Coral Gables campus more than two years ago, where it has consistently helped the University curtail its energy use and the associated costs while maintaining comfortable environments in the buildings. Now, IUE will be installed in another 1.8 million square feet at the Medical Campus in the heart of Miami.

The University of Miami School of Medicine was founded in 1952 as Florida’s first accredited medical school. Today, with 770 clinical faculty members having more than one million patient encounters each year in primary care and 30 specialties -- and a total of 6,000 School of Medicine employees -- the University of Miami Medical Campus demands reliable and controlled energy.

“With the rising costs of energy, we have been looking for a way to control our costs and cutting energy usage while maintaining the climates a medical center demands is exactly what WebGen does,” said Tony Kaniewski, director of Facilities Administration at the Medical Campus.

IUE provides building owners and managers with a predictive, automated energy management solution that reduces energy costs and improves energy efficiency while maintaining focus on occupant comfort. The system conserves scarce energy resources, reduces energy expenditures and provides detailed accounting of reduced energy use and corresponding dollar savings.

“The University’s Medical Campus is looking for ways to reliably control energy use and costs, and our enterprise energy management system fits the bill for a diverse group of buildings with special needs and multiple critical areas,” said Mark Noyes, president and chief operating officer, WebGen Systems.
