WebGen Systems Successfully Curtails Energy Use in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory TestCambridge, Mass., (March 23, 2004) – WebGen Systems, Inc., provider of advanced software for energy conservation and control in commercial buildings, announced today that the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) has conducted a successful test of WebGen’s Intelligent Use of Energy (IUE ®) system. WebGen Systems participated in a study conducted by Berkeley Lab that analyzed Enterprise Energy Management Systems. “Berkeley Lab conducted a test of Enterprise Energy Management (EEM) systems that can automatically react to an internet-based energy price signal. WebGen's IUE system was one of the systems that successfully participated in this test.”
“We at Berkeley Lab see IUE's information infrastructure as quite sophisticated and unique when compared to other technology platforms we have evaluated,” explained Mary Ann Piette, Deputy Group Leader/Commercial Building Systems Group at Berkeley Lab. “It is useful to differentiate between basic and intelligent curtailment systems, such as IUE, and their respective actions. While saving energy is a goal, comfort and legal considerations are also considered. WebGen's IUE has integrated these factors into their system.”
Piette continued, “WebGen’s IUE was the first system that was ready for the Berkeley Lab test, which is no surprise since it managed its first basic curtailment over three years ago at University of Miami, remotely and automatically turning off energy consuming devices.” Since then, WebGen’s IUE has enabled customers, such as Bank of America and California’s Department of General Services, to successfully participate in Demand Response programs and demonstrations in the state of California. “During the recent test, WebGen's IUE automatically reacted to the price signals with measurable demand reduction. Berkeley Lab is excited about the test results and will soon release a full technical report," Piette added. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will soon issue a full report on the subject.
